A CITRUS TWIST..............

A couple of kilometres outside the town of Villamarchante, some 30 minutes inland from the city of Valencia, lies this truly extraordinary Hotel. A working citrus farm of 52 hectares, the emphasis is very much on the orange and the lemon. 5-star luxury abounds, and as you enter the long driveway with its beautifully manicured hedges and flowering plants you know you have arrived somewhere special. With its fabulous spa, renowned restaurant and wonderful bedrooms, hotels do not get much better than this!!!

The Hotel meanders around the estate; the old “Mas” or farmhouse being the central point. This houses the reception, the spa in the basement, 9 bedrooms and a large and inviting salon. These are around a traditional patio courtyard and the salon looks out over the outdoor swimming pool and terraces. There are wonderful views over the orange and lemon groves and at night the city lights of Valencia twinkle tantalizingly in the distance. You are, however, in a different world!

It is a place in which to wander, and the wonderful lawns and gardens invite you to do just this. The hotel boasts its own botanical garden with a collection of over 200 plants and shrubs, many grown from seed and then nurtured until planted out in the Hotel grounds.

The full Spa is a joy with one of the nicest “tropical” pools that I have seen. Different areas of this pool have water jets and thus it also serves as a Jacuzzi. There are a full range of pampering treatments; baths, facials, body wraps, massages, manicure and pedicure to name just a few. It has the name of “The Orange Spa” as almost all lotions and potions are citrus based – orange essence bubble baths, grapefruit citrus wrap, bitter orange rind exfoliation – they go “on and on”. It is recommended that you book treatments in advance. Hairdressing is available on request. A sauna, steam bath and gymnasium are also at your disposal. Truly excellent facilities. If you are feeling energetic, an all weather tennis and paddle court are also on hand. Horse-riding and Golf are nearby and can be booked with reception.

The 9 bedrooms (2 Suites, 2 Junior Suites and 5 Doubles) in the old Mas all have their own private terraces. They are slightly smaller than the others, but none the less beautiful. The “coup de theatre” is the modern bedrooms in the recently constructed separate building. Hidden discreetly away in the gardens ( there is even grass on the roof so that it does not detract from the beautiful views) there are 6 Royal Suites, 3 Suites and the rest of the Standard Double Rooms. “Gob-smackingly gorgeous” is the only way to describe the contemporary styled Royal Suites – all with huge terraces and private pools. They look directly out onto the orange groves. The rooms and salons are enormous and some possess open Jacuzzis in the bedrooms. The Suites, still enormous, but less so than the Royal Suites, are equally breathtaking. All have terraces with sun loungers. The Standard Rooms (and some Suites) are on the lower floor and their terraces lead directly onto the orange groves. All the rooms in both parts of the Hotel are stunningly furnished and equipped with all the amenities you would expect from this level of a Hotel. Continuing the citrus theme, even the toiletries are made from essential oils of these fruits and the room names follow in suit. Hi-tech plasma TVs, Wi-Fi internet access, heating, air-con, hairdryers, safe, mini-bars, loads of thick fluffy white towels, dressing gowns and slippers come as standard in all rooms. There is 24-hour room service.

Breakfasts are served at your leisure in the cafeteria of yet another building – this one with a modern and rather “funky” feel with lots of black, slate and chrome. The cafeteria doubles as an informal bar and has a terrace for the warmer months. This is the only place where smoking is permitted in the Hotel. On the other side of this building is Mas de Canicatti’s renowned restaurant. A very elegant contemporary design makes it an inviting place for lunch and dinner and again it has an outdoor terrace for romantic dinners under the stars. The beautifully presented dishes are based on Modern Mediterranean cuisine.

An ideal Hotel for those who want to be pampered – an excellent short break Hotel for the ”Low Cost/No Frills” airlines flying into Valencia Airport. A definite Honeymoon Heaven – you are guaranteed to leave smelling of orange blossom!!!!
