IN SHOPPING HEAVEN ..............

At the top of Calle Preciados, one of Madrid’s best known shopping streets off the Puerta del Sol Square is the Hotel Preciados. Nearest Metro stations are the Plaza de Santo Domingo (on Line 2) and Callao (on Lines 1 and 5). Situated a stone’s throw from the Gran Via and within easy walking distance of the trendy Chueca area, it is very centrally located indeed. You are a hundred metres from El Corte Ingles, Spain’s most famous department store.

Although a larger Hotel than we would normally feature I have added it to our listings for its excellent location, a wonderful level of service and mouthwatering restaurant. I found reception/ concierge to be extremely helpful and they will happily make theatre reservations and restaurant bookings for you and smilingly give advice on places to visit, etc., etc.

The 71 bedrooms, whilst not the largest, are beautifully appointed and have all the facilities you would expect of this category of hotel. The colours are muted tones of white and cream. The Suites and Superiors have hydro-massage baths and bathrobes for added luxury, and the Superior rooms on the upper flloor have small terraces where the Hotel is happy to provide a romantic dinner for two! All rooms have a complimentary mini-bar, free Wi-Fi internet access, hairdryer, heating, air-con, safe, cable TV and “pay” TV channels for films. I loved the novel wrought-iron clothes-stands in the “naďf” shape of men and women. The windows are double-glazed and therefore noise from traffic is minimal.

Private parking is also available if you are travelling by car.

Breakfasts are served at your leisure in the restaurant on the ground floor, Café Virela. It takes its name from one of Madrid’s most Bohemian cafes which occupied this site from 1896 to 1959. It was a famous meeting point for Madrid’s writers who would discuss their works over coffee. It is open to the public for lunch and dinner with the emphasis on delicious dishes from Galicia, home to this country’s most renowned cuisine. Café Virela has a contemporary feel. There is also a small cocktail bar/salon for the exclusive use of clients. The Hotel also provides complimentary coffee and cakes for those checking out before the normal breakfast time.

An ideal Hotel for those who want a wonderful central location, close to shops, theatres, Chueca and the historic sites. Excellent Metro connections.
