DEW-DROP AND DIAMOND..............

A jewel of a Hotel in the delightful and picturesque village of Deia. A village made famous by the British Poet, Robert Graves (author of the poem “Dew-drop and Diamond”), who made it his home for many years and chose the peaceful little cemetery on top of the hill as his final resting place. La Residencia is the “grand old lady” of Mallorquin luxury Hotels, recognised as a centre of excellence in the Hotel industry. Once owned by Richard Branson in the past and now under the wing of “Orient Express” – a brand name synonymous with the better things in life. Although it does have 67 bedrooms, a website dedicated to “Amazing Hotels” would be incomplete without La Residencia. It is frequently visited by the rich and famous and you never know who will appear at the next dining table!

Nestled against the terraced hillside in front of you, the views of Deia from the Hotel are breathtaking. The Hotel itself complements the village entirely with beautiful stonework and old roof tiles forming an integral part of its design. You do not feel as if you are in such a large Hotel, but more that you are in a part of the village as La Residencia meanders between two refomed mansion houses and lies in manicured gardens. It is but a stone’s throw from the spectacular scenery overlooking the Northern coastline of the island.

On entering the luminous reception it is immediately apparent that quality is the by-word. Gracious staff will help in every way possible. Antique Mallorquin furniture and works of art abound. Beamed ceilings and terracotta tiled floors add to the sense of style and warmth.

It is a hotel of swimming pools!!! There are two main outdoor pools affording those wonderful views across the valley. There is a refined hush by the pools as the Hotel operates a “no children under the age of ten” policy except in July and August. There is an indoor pool in the Health and Beauty Centre with all sorts of pampering treatments for your well-being. Healthy snacks are available if you have overindulged in the gourmet restaurant. There is an all-weather tennis court with lessons available from an instructor. There is access to a private rocky cove if you fancy a swim in the Mediterranean Sea.

There are 36 single and double bedrooms, 17 Junior Suites (most with private balconies or terraces, salons and four poster beds) and three stunning Superior Suites with the added luxury of their own private swimming pool. On of these also has 360 views from the top terrace. The rooms are lavish and beautifully equipped. Every aspect of luxury is at your fingertips and all that you would expect from a Hotel of this standard – Moulton Brown toiletries, candles – no expense has been spared to provide that romantic touch. Satellite TV, heating and air-con, safe, fridge, hairdryer, bathrobes and slippers, 24-hour room service and turn down service.

This is a “foodies” Hotel and the main restaurant, “El Olivo”, has achieved a reputation as one of the most notable restaurants on the island. The setting is gorgeous – the converted olive press accompanies you for interior dining in the warmer months and the candle-lit terrace is definitely for romantics. Be warned gentlemen, many a wedding proposal has been made here!!! Seduction of the palate as well as the fiancée!!! Epicure heaven - the wine list is endless. This is formal dining at its best.

Less formal is the Son Fony restaurant, but equally as wonderful. There are daily suggestions of local Mediterranean dishes which share the Menu with more international fayre. On hot languid days in summer, crisp fresh salads, cold soups and locally caught Mediterranean fish are on offer at the pool restaurant. Afternoon tea is served on the terrace when weather permits.

An ideal Hotel for those who want pure, unadulterated luxury with wonderful pampering facilities in a spectacular location. A gourmet experience and an incredible Honeymoon Heaven. La Residencia has appeared in many articles in publications such as Conde Nast Traveller, Vogue, Bride etc.
