LIVING LIKE A KING ..............

This converted 19th Century palace sits on the edge of a square just north of the Jewish Quarter of Seville, therefore making it an ideal place to use as a base for sightseeing. The Cathedral and magnificent Royal Palace and gardens are a 15 minute walk. Not to be missed is the nearby Casas Pilatos, a replica of Pilate’s House in Jerusalem. The palace was given to the King of Baeza by the then King of Spain for services to the state. It has been completely reformed and is now one of Seville’s oldest and most respected boutique Hotels. It does have 41 bedrooms, a Hotel slightly larger than we would normally feature on our website but we have to include it as it is “an amazing hotel”.

Passing through reception you enter a calm patio courtyard, taking you back to a bygone era. One is immediately taken by the very attractive use of cooling blue hues in the decoration. The bedrooms are based around this patio courtyard on three floors. Open sided, pillared corridors traverse the patio giving it a cloistered feel. The patio leads you through to a large salon with internet access for the guests, a library and a games room. They are beautifully decorated and ideal places to sit and relax with a book or a drink.

A very attractive feature of this Hotel is the rooftop terrace with small swimming pool, sun loungers and snack bar. Sandwiches, pizzas and salads are on offer poolside for lunch. You would never think you were in a bustling city as you indulge in a Spanish siesta on the roof!

The 41 bedrooms, some larger than others (obviously confined by the size of the original palace) are tastefully decorated. Equipped, as you would expect from a 4 star hotel with satellite T.V., heating, air-con, safe, minibar, tea and coffee making facilities, bathrobes etc. Some of the higher priced rooms come complete with DVD and CD and the reception offers both films and music for your use. One room is fully adapted for wheelchair users. If you prefer lighter rooms I would recommend “splashing out” on the rooms that have external windows as the rooms that overlook the cloistered patio are quite dark.

Breakfasts can be taken in the patio courtyard or in the main restaurant which is on the ground floor opposite reception. Dinner, in the recently renovated dining room is a much more serious affair and the Hotel restaurant is now gaining an excellent reputation. It serves traditional Spanish cuisine. It is open to the public. You will also find numerous restaurants in the area.

An ideal Hotel for a City Break in a stylish historical building. Excellent for shopping, café society and all the wondrous tourist sites of this extraordinary city. Early booking is recommended as the Hotel does get booked up quite far in advance.

Las Casas del Rey de Baeza has been featured in numerous travel articles including The New York Times and Conde Nast Traveller
