PURE-BRED BOUTIQUE...............

In the old and narrow winding streets of Seville’s “Barrio Alfalfa”, at a stone’s throw from the magnificent Cathedral, Giralda and Casa Pilatos (to name but a few of the nearby attractions), the Calle Corral del Rey may appear to be like any other street in this historical maze, but over the two year period leading up to Semana Santa 2007, something spectacular was stirring behind the seemingly ordinary whitewashed façade of house number 12. That “something” was an immaculate conversion of this abandoned 17th Century “Casa Palacio” into a 6-bedroom luxury Boutique Hotel. Patrick and Anthony, two young enterprising brothers raised in Andalucia (and progeny of a successful family of hoteliers no less) returned from their respective business ventures abroad, joining forces and business savvy to create the utterly unique treasure that is Corral del Rey. They have taken history, art and style, and have wrapped them up into one ultra-chic and delightfully luxurious little package.

Beautiful wooden doors open into an entrance hall of understated elegance where one gets one’s first glimpse of the calm oasis that lies within. There follows a welcome of genuine warmth and caring as you are led into the original patio courtyard, now a small, well appointed salon that gives rise to a stunning galleried atrium of beautiful archways, original Roman marble columns and wrought-iron railings. Lines, angles and textures have been combined in the most visually stimulating manner, all the while maintaining an aesthetic of refined class. The staircase winds its way up to a spacious roof terrace, complete with plunge pool and “mirador” with views stretching over tiled rooftops to the Cathedral and Giralda – Seville’s landmark tower. Original works of art adorn the walls in all areas of the Hotel; some are part of the family’s private collection whilst others are on temporary exhibition and are rotated every eight months.

Off the salon on the ground floor is the Hotel’s restaurant – a stylish setting for an intimate dining experience. The Chef’s innovative fusion of Spanish and Mediterranean cuisine will delight the palate. Dinners can be arranged under the vaulted ceilings of the ancient cellars (discovered during the restoration), or on the roof terrace. Be sure to reserve your table – the restaurant is open to the public, and is quickly gaining a reputation amongst the locals!

The harmonious blend of Andalucian charm and modern design continues through to the 12 lavish bedrooms that comprise of Junior Suites, Deluxe Doubles and Superior Doubles (one of which has been fully adapted for wheelchair access and those with mobility problems). The Rooms are not huge, obviously owing to the size of the original house, but not an ounce of comfort has been forsaken in their design. I loved the rooms on the 1st floor with their magnificent Mudejar ceilings. A colour scheme of cream and beige with touches of olive green, gold and blue is cool and calming throughout. No expense has been spared on room amenities; state of the art sound and audio visual systems are literally at your fingertips – interactive digital LCD TV, CD & DVD with centralised DVD library; I-POD docking station, direct dial telephone, complementary internet access, safe, heating and air-con, luxurious limestone and marble bathrooms with walk-in power showers (in Superior & Deluxe rooms), and bath in the Junior Suites. Slippers and the fluffiest of towels and bathrobes are also provided. “Bespoke” bed linen and pillows are of the highest quality. A welcome “Manzanilla” sherry on arrival is lovely, as are the fresh flowers, which are replenished daily. Turn down service with hand made truffles from the Chef add the finishing touch!

There is a newly opened amazing "Penthouse Suite" which is a dream.

Breakfast is not the normal “buffet affair”; but a continental breakfast although waiter service will provide you with the breakfast of your choice from the à la carte menu and can be taken “al fresco” on the roof terrace when weather permits. Although a formal lunch is not served at the Hotel, room service is available throughout the day.

An ideal Hotel for lovers of the finer things in life: ultra stylish and comfortable accommodation on a highly intimate scale with exemplary service, extreme attention to detail and a great restaurant….not to mention location, location, location! Our best advice is to book early – this little gem is in high demand.
