RETREAT TO THE WATCHTOWER…………

On one of the most unspoilt coastlines of Spain, this 18th century ancestral home comes complete with a typical Asturian raised granary and a superbly preserved Roman watchtower after which the Hotel takes its name (more on this later!). Manolo, your charming and caring host, has lovingly restored and decorated the house to offer a peaceful retreat to his guests.

The overall feeling throughout the Hotel is one of rest and relaxation. A spacious and luminous salon on the ground floor is inviting, with its log fire, comfortable sofas and soft music. Attractive paintings and black and white photography, all by Asturian artists, adorn the walls of exposed stone and others that are painted in warm and lively hues. Large windows afford lovely views over the lush surroundings, which can also be enjoyed from the terrace – a fantastic spot from which to soak up the warm afternoon sun and watch those breathaking sunsets.

Ten of the bedrooms, some with sea views, are found in the main house and are divided amongst Superior and Standard Doubles. Tasteful and simple, the décor is a balanced blend of rustic and modern. More stone walls and beamed ceilings (in some of the rooms) are complimented by smart furnishings, lively colours, warm lighting and uncluttered spaces. I do reommend a Superior Double, as these have sitting areas – and on the upper level, my favourites, the rooms under the eaves. Extensive restorations on the Medieval Tower were completed in 2008, and the "Tower Suite" is the newest addition to the Hotel's collection of rooms. It comprises of a Master bedroom on the 2nd floor, an additional bedroom (which sleeps two) and en-suite shower room on the 1st floor. The 3rd floor boasts a salon and en-suite bathroom, and, the pièce de résistance, is the roof terrace from which to take in those stunning panoramas!

The en-suite bathrooms (all with bath except in the Tower Suite's 2nd bedroom) are handsome with their bold-coloured tiles. All the rooms are equipped with television, telephone, free internet access, hair dryer and slippers, and are heated in the winter months.

Buffet breakfasts are served in the ground floor dining room or on the terrace in summer; start your day sampling typical products of the region – the homemade jams, cakes and pastries are to be savoured. Dinners are served exclusively to the Hotel guests and a simple yet varied à la carte menu of light, home-cooked dishes and snacks comprises a selection of salads, soups, tasty tit-bits such as croquettes, savoury Serrano ham and foie, to name but a few. A fish and meat dish are always included on the menu for something a bit more substantial, and the wine selection is excellent too! Special dietary requirements can be catered to with advance notice.

Manolo is a wealth of information on the area and is happy to help with planning your excursions. The Hotel´s location is ideal for discovering the caves and beaches of the magnificent unspoilt coastline as well as the nearby picturesque fishing villages of Luarca and Cudillero, among others. Horse riding and canoeing can be arranged through the Hotel, and bicycles are also available for guests´use. The Somiedo Natural Park is a short drive from the Hotel, where nature lovers can experience some of the most breathtaking moutainous countryside to be found in Western Asturias.

An ideal Hotel if you are looking for attractive accommodation with a friendly and helpful host, and an excellent place from which to experience both the beauty of Asturias, its beaches and the warm hospitality of its people.
