PORTSIDE ..............

Situated directly on the “Paseo Maritimo” overlooking the sea and the port of this attractive seaside town is the charming La Posada del Mar. Dating from the 13th Century it has been lovingly restored and is now Denia’s premier boutique Hotel. You are in the heart of the action with coffee bars and restaurants lining the promenade – lovely places to sit and take the sun at all times of the year. The port is still used by some larger ships (a high-speed catamaran ferry can whisk you off to Ibiza in 2 hours – day trips are possible, but I would recommend an overnight stay). It is still a busy fishing port. Denia is a cosmopolitan town with many international (and excellent) eateries and shops.

The reception staff are as welcoming as can be and the building opens up through the 13th Century stone arches. Where possible, original architecture has been retained and you can catch enticing glimpses of stone and brickwork throughout the Hotel. There is a definite “feel-good” factor amongst the happy staff. They are very pleased to assist with day trips, boat hire etc.

In the basement there is a sauna and a large gymnasium in which to work off the excesses of lunch or dinner. Massages are available but should be pre-booked. An evening jog or stroll along the seafront is a gentler option to the gym, or swim from the beach just 800 metres away. The Hotel also has a reading/library room with free internet access for clients.

The 25 bedrooms, a magnificent Suite, Junior Suites (some with terraces), doubles and twins, all have sea views, some directly facing the Mediterranean Sea and others on the side of the building overlooking the esplanade and quayside. They are beautifully decorated in muted tones and because of their large windows and the bright Spanish sunshine they are light and airy. They are all decorated in a different manner and have the luxuries you would expect of this category of hotel – Satellite TV, safe, mini-bar, heating, air-con and hairdryers. The Suite and Junior Suites on the 4th floor (which all have terraces) also have bathrobes and slippers and are ideally suited for honeymooners, especially the Suite with a four poster bed, a large roof terrace with amazing views over the sea and the all important open air Jacuzzi! There is one bedroom especially adapted for wheelchair access.

Breakfasts are served in the first floor restaurant, an attractive room with a sea view. In the summer months the streetside terrace of the Hotel becomes the main focus for eating as the restaurant spills out onto the pavements of the promenade. It is open to the public and gets very busy. It is renowned for its mainly Spanish-style seafood and rice dishes so typical of the Valencia/Alicante region. The piano bar often has a pianist tinkling gently away in the background and is a lovely place for a cocktail or night-cap.

An ideal Hotel for those who want a lovely Hotel with excellent service in this tranquil and elegant seaside town. Ideal for exploring the Costa Blanca resorts and beaches.
