Surrounded by natural beauty in the small village of Lugás, just below the 12th century Roman Sanctuary of Santa María de Lugás, La Corte de Lugás is a fine example of typical 18th century Asturian architecture, with its stone walls, exterior wooden gallery and the imposing raised granary, or ¨panera¨, that stands proudly next to the house. A second building, originally a bread oven and also used for cider production, has been converted to house 5 of the Hotel´s 10 bedrooms.

A warm welcome awaits at this family-run Hotel. Off reception, a lofty salon with comfy leather chairs and an alluring log fire invite the guest to sit and marvel at the art collection that adorns the stunning stone walls. This, however, is not just any art collection; it is the essence of the Hotel. The paintings depict the Asturian Kings, whose spirit kept alive in all of the rooms, including the salon and restaurant, to which this kingdom´s once great leaders lend their names.

The Hotel´s spacious bedrooms – divided amongst Doubles, Doubles with salon and Duplex – have been very tastefully decorated. Warm hues of ochre, blue and terra-cotta, together with romantic lighting create a cosy ambiance. The décor is rustic, with handsome antique wood and wrought-iron furnishings, beamed ceilings and terra-cotta tiled floors. The beautifully embroidered bed covers, drapery and shower curtains add a delicate touch, while ther details like faux-fur pillows and throws add some flair. I loved the tiling in the bathrooms! Room amenities include full en-suite bathrooms, TV, telephone, heating and air-conditioning, free internet access, safe and hairdryer.

The rustic charm continues right through to the restaurant. Breakfasts are lovely, with homemade cakes and buscuits, yoghourts and jams. Regional cuisine is the order of the day, with an excellent variety of dishes to choose from for both lunch and dinner. Prepared with care by none other than Daniel´s mother, this is traditional Asturian home cooking at its best!

The Hotel´s location is excellent for exploring the area. A smattering of sandy beaches and picturesque fishing villages are a mere 15 minutes from the Hotel, and the Villaviciosa Estuary Nature Reserve is just 5 minutes away; Oviedo, the capital city of Asturias, and the sea-side city of Gijón are at 30 minutes. Walking and hiking routes abound, and horse riding, quad biking, canoeing and kayaking can be arranged through the Hotel.

An ideal Hotel if you are looking for lovely accommodation in a superb setting; a great base from which to discover Asturias.
