A priviledged location is what comes to mind when one arrives at Aire de Ruesga. The Ruesga Valley lies between this peaceful abode and the Picos de San Vicente mountains, affording the Hotel its sensational views. This 17th Century stone house, neighboured by the village church, was opened as a Hotel in 2003 after meticulous restoration. Josu and Zorione are the young and enthusiastic brother and sister team that run this charming rural retreat. They are delightfully freindly, and will bend over backwards to make your stay with them an unforgettable one.

Aire de Ruesga has 10 tastefully decorated bedrooms, each with their own distinctive character. The rooms are simple yet spacious with large bathrooms, and are named after different cultures and villages. I highly recommend a room with a view – rooms 5 and 6 (both with balcony) look out over the Hotel´s nearly two acres of lawned gardens, flower beds and centenary trees, over the valley to the mountains beyond, whilst others have views over the Collados de Asón Natural Park. ¨Aire Colonial¨ (room 5), the most requested room, is especially romantic with its four-poster bed. All rooms have full en-suite bath, and are equipped with satellite TV, telephone and heating. Hair dryers are available on request.

Enjoy a buffet breakfast from the bright and airy restaurant. Large, floor-to-ceiling windows allow guests to marvel at the divine surroundings. Lunch is not served at the Hotel, but you will be in for a treat come suppertime – Zorione´s traditonal Cantabrian home cooking gets rave reviews. An à la carte menu offers excellent selection, and a fixed daily menu is also available. Dining ¨al fresco¨ in the summer months is an even greater pleasure.

Given Aire de Ruesga´s excellent location, activities are plentiful. The sandy beaches and picturesque sea-side village of Laredo are a mere 20 minutes by car from the Hotel. Walking and hiking routes know no bounds. Horse riding, quad biking, canoeing, kayaking and guided visits of the area´s fantastic prehistoric caves. Josu and Zorione´s knowledge of the area is extensive, and they will happily assist in organising activities. The house´s original cattle shed has been transformed into a cosy salon with pretty chairs and a comfy sofa – ideal after a day´s exploration. The log fire is lovely in winter.

An ideal Hotel if you are looking for charming accommodation in a spectacular setting. A natural paradise in which to admire your surroundings and breathe in that fresh Cantabrian mountain air.
